Guild Suicide: Advertising in Chat?
Simply stated in the title; I see many a person trying to advertise their guild is " hiring" but I see a lot of said people getting bad reps because they "spam" the channel with "Soandso is looking to recruit members, etc.." and the more they advertise, the more and more negative plublicity they're getting from their potential target demographic <solo people, looking for an organization>
One question arises: Why? I met the guild I'm now in <and I love it> through playing with them on missions and then I got inducted, after I got to know them. I believe this is the way to get into a guild, not just someone blind inviting you from Dist 1 Ascalon city pre-searing into a guild you potentially have no real things in common with. Plus; to add to this, I believe guilds only do this when people keep leaving and they want to "fill the ranks" --The Shim |

Common knowledge, my friend.
Very rarely are guilds of good calibre seen recruiting (and having people say "Sissy Boys recruiting dis 11" in Tombs is just to get people to leave the district so that the friends of the spammer can get in, and does not count as it isn't actually going on). |

It is really hard to start a new guild, so many people try in pre searing or early missions to get a critical mass of folks. The problem is that these new guilds have little to offer folks after a while and there ends up being a lot of turnover in the guild. Then you have to go spam all over again and the cycle continues.
If you do manage to get a foothold with say a critical mass or 10 or so people, then you can start making a name for yourself in tombs, gvg, U/W or Furnace runs, whatever and then if you have a good website people might look you up and ask to join. And the bigger you get, the easier it is to recruit more people. The key is to have professional acting representatives of the guild (both in game and on various forums) and have an easy way for people to find out more about you. |

very true Shimus! However Billiard does have a good point too! *most too all good players are already in guilds! the best type of person u want is a guild is a loyal person! so if they're loyal why would they leave their current guild to join urs? But Shimus is generally correct! Do not start a guild if ur not willing to put the time into recruiting the proper people our u will forever been a nublet guild going thru the recruiting cycle!

Now, for the most part, the people I befriended are gone, most simply just not playing anymore. I've also been informed by the leader and top officers that they aren't really interested in pvp'ing at all, and they want it to be a pve guild. In my case, and I'm sure there are tons of players in a similar situation, I still help out the others with missions/quests when I'm not in the arenas or tombs, and see no reason to leave until I find a guild that suits me better. Its not a matter of loyalty so much, as the guild not being what I expected it to be, and my own enjoyment of the game being lessened by the direction the guild leaders decided they wanted to go. |
